Demand Response Controller

Wireless load switching for real-time demand response. Enable grid operators and aggregators to manage distributed loads with sub-second precision across your entire building portfolio.

Real-Time Control

Sub-Second Demand Response Switching

The ZDR series delivers sub-second relay switching for demand response events, enabling participation in fast-acting grid services such as frequency response and capacity markets. When a demand response signal arrives at the EpiSensor gateway, the ZDR activates immediately, shedding or shifting loads according to pre-configured rules. This rapid response time ensures compliance with even the most demanding grid programme requirements.

Wireless Mesh

ZigBee Mesh Network Integration

The ZDR communicates wirelessly via ZigBee, joining the self-healing mesh network coordinated by the EpiSensor gateway. This eliminates the need to run control cables to each load point, dramatically reducing installation time and cost. The mesh topology means each ZDR can relay signals for other devices, extending network coverage throughout large buildings and multi-floor facilities without additional infrastructure.

Relay Outputs

Dual Relay Outputs with Status Feedback

Each ZDR unit provides two independent relay outputs, allowing control of multiple load circuits from a single device. The relays support both normally-open and normally-closed configurations, giving installers flexibility in how loads are wired. Built-in status feedback confirms relay state back to the gateway, providing full visibility and audit trails for every demand response event -- essential for programme verification and settlement.

Safety First

Configurable Override and Failsafe Behaviour

Building operators retain full control with configurable override settings. If communication with the gateway is lost, the ZDR falls back to a pre-defined safe state -- either maintaining the current relay position or reverting to a default configuration. Local override switches allow on-site personnel to manually control loads when needed, ensuring that critical systems are never compromised by demand response events.

DIN-Rail Mounting, Industrial-Grade Design

Designed for commercial and industrial electrical panels, the ZDR mounts on standard 35mm DIN rail alongside existing switchgear. The compact form factor minimises panel space requirements, and screw terminals provide secure, vibration-resistant connections. Powered directly from the mains supply via an internal power supply, the ZDR requires no additional power adapters or external transformers.
